Desks in one terminal
All car hire at Almeria Airport sits in the single arrivals hall, left and right as you leave baggage.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most driving from LEI is motorway along the A-7 plus the run inland to the desert and the hill towns. Pick by group size and distance.
Small & budget
The most booked group at LEI and the cheapest to run on the coast roads.
Automatic
In short supply across Spain, so reserve before you fly if you want one.
7-seater & van
Room for the family and luggage on the run out to Mojacar or Roquetas.
Luxury & SUV
A higher ride for the Cabo de Gata tracks. Deposits run higher on these groups.
Almeria Airport (LEI) sits about 9 km east of the city, right off the A-7 coastal motorway. It has a single terminal, so the rental setup is small and quick.
The rental desks sit on the ground floor of the arrivals hall.
The collection point for the cars is immediately outside and you can walk to it very quickly, with no need for a shuttle bus. A few brands run their cars from an off-site office instead, reached by a short shuttle. Check your voucher before you land.
Suppliers at LEI
The exact desk or shuttle point for your booking is always on your rental voucher - read it before you fly.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport, and a driving licence held for at least a year ready at the desk. You will need a valid driving licence and a credit card, and you may be asked for your passport and flight details as secondary identification. Pre-book and you could be on the road in less than 30 minutes.
Desk hours are the one thing to check. Firms staff the desks from around 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday, some until 21:00, with most closed on Sundays and reduced hours on Saturdays. If your flight lands late or at the weekend, confirm your supplier covers that arrival before you book, as a missed pickup is hard to recover. If you return out of normal working hours there is a drop-box to leave your keys. Photograph any existing scratches before you drive off. The minimum age is 21, and most companies add a daily surcharge for drivers under 25.
LEI is right on the A-7/E-15. The airport is easily accessible from the main coastal motorway - approaching from the east take exit 460, from the west take exit 456. Central Almeria is about 20 minutes west; head east on the A-7 instead and you skip the city for the coast and the Cabo de Gata bays.
Low-emission zone (ZBE) - good news for rentals
Almeria city centre has a ZBE low-emission zone, and your provider ensures the car has the correct environmental sticker for legal access. Cars rented in Spain already carry the required DGT sticker, so a car picked up at LEI can drive into the city and the zone with no extra paperwork. The fines target older or foreign-plated private cars, not your hire car.
For the return, fuel up before the airport. The nearest is a Repsol station on the AL-12 road, about five minutes from the terminal. Then follow the clearly marked signs for "Car Rental Returns", which lead to the drop-off zone adjacent to the terminal. If you plan a one-way drop in another city, flag it when you book rather than at the desk.
In the single terminal's arrivals hall. As you exit baggage you will see the desks on the left and right, with the cars parked right outside - no shuttle for most suppliers.
A few brands run a short shuttle to an off-site office, which your voucher will state.
Check first. Desks generally run from around 08:30 to 17:30 on weekdays, some until 21:00, with reduced Saturday hours and most closed on Sundays.
If you land late or at the weekend, confirm your supplier covers that arrival before booking.
Yes. Cars rented in Spain carry the DGT environmental sticker the ZBE requires, so you can drive into the city centre with no extra registration.
The fines only apply to older or foreign-plated private cars.
About 20 minutes, roughly 9 km, via the A-7 or the AL-12 that runs parallel to the runway.
Head east instead and you reach the Cabo de Gata coast without going into the city at all.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
To avoid a hold, choose a full cover or no-deposit rate - then a debit card is usually fine and there is no pressure to buy extra cover at the desk.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at LEI and return in Roquetas de Mar, Mojacar or Granada.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics are in shorter supply and cost more, so book one well ahead if you need it.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
