Gavà is a town immediately south of Barcelona's El Prat Airport — the airport boundary is less than 5 minutes away, making Gavà one of the closest residential municipalities to any major Spanish airport. The town has two distinct sides: the Gavà Mar beach district, which forms part of the long Costa de Garraf coastline with a quiet sandy beach popular with Barcelonans at weekends, and the inland town of Gavà with its prehistoric mines — the Mines Prehistòriques de Gavà, a Neolithic site dating back 7,000 years and open for guided tours. Sitges is 10 minutes south and Barcelona 20 minutes north.
