Mataró is the capital of the Maresme comarca, a lively city 30 kilometres north of Barcelona on the coast of the Costa de Barcelona. It is known as Spain's first city to have a railway line — the Barcelona–Mataró route opened in 1848 as the first railway in Catalonia. Today it is a modern commercial and cultural hub with a pleasant seafront, Roman ruins (it was the Roman colony of Iluro), and a well-preserved historic centre. Mataró lies midway between Barcelona and the Costa Brava resorts, making it a practical base for exploring the Maresme coast in both directions.
Credit card or deposit
Most rentals require a credit card for the security hold. Debit cards are accepted on no-deposit rates — select that option when searching on the site.
