San Sebastián de los Reyes — known locally as Sanse — is a busy municipality 15 kilometres north of Madrid, forming part of the Madrid metropolitan area along the A-1 corridor. Despite being a Madrid suburb, it has a distinct identity: it is home to the Circuito del Jarama motor racing track (a historic Formula 1 venue from the 1960s–80s) and is famous for its own bull-running festival in January — the Encierro de San Sebastián de los Reyes — recognised by Guinness World Records as the second most important in the world after Pamplona. The area is also a major retail and logistics hub with large shopping centres and industrial parks.
