Platja d'Aro is one of the liveliest beach resorts on the Costa Brava, located in the municipality of Castell-Platja d'Aro on the central Costa Brava, about 100 kilometres northeast of Barcelona. It has a broad sandy beach over 2 kilometres long, a bustling pedestrian shopping street (the Carrer de Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer), a concentration of restaurants, beach bars, and nightclubs that make it one of the most popular summer destinations in Catalonia. Palamós and its fishing port are 8 kilometres north; Sant Feliu de Guíxols is 10 kilometres south. The surrounding Costa Brava is spectacular: calas, pine forests, and medieval villages within easy driving distance.

Parking in Platja d'Aro is primarily paid in the resort centre and along the seafront, especially in summer. There are several supervised car parks near the beach. Free parking can be found in residential streets back from the front and in edge-of-town areas. Arrive early in July–August as demand is high.
The C-31 and C-65 connect Platja d'Aro to Girona in 45 minutes and to Barcelona in about 1 hour 20 minutes. Tossa de Mar is 20 minutes south. Lloret de Mar is 30 minutes south. The AP-7 motorway is 20 minutes inland. Petrol stations on the C-31 and C-65.
