Calella is a lively beach resort on the Costa de Barcelona (Maresme coast), one of the most popular charter flight destinations in Catalonia. The long sandy beach, animated seafront promenade, and good-value hotels draw large numbers of northern European visitors each summer. A rental car unlocks freedom beyond the resort — the start of the Costa Brava is 20 kilometres north at Blanes, Girona's medieval quarter is 50 kilometres away, and Barcelona is under one hour south on the C-32 motorway.

Paid parking applies along the main seafront streets in summer. A public car park at the edge of town is a better option for a full day. Residential streets away from the beach have more free spaces.
The C-32 motorway connects Calella to Barcelona in about 50 minutes. Blanes and the start of the Costa Brava are 20 minutes north. Mataró is 15 minutes south. Petrol stations on the N-II main road and at the C-32 service areas.
