Desks in both terminals
Counters sit beside baggage reclaim in T1 and T2 at Lanzarote Airport (ACE).
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Roads here are quiet and well surfaced, so pick by group size and luggage rather than power. Here is what comes off the ACE desks most.
Small & budget
Cheapest off the plane and easy to park at Puerto del Carmen. Fine for two.
Automatic
Fewer suppliers carry them, so reserve an automatic before you fly.
7-seater & van
Room for the family and cases on the run out to Playa Blanca.
Luxury & convertible
Open-top for the coast road. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Lanzarote Airport (ACE), also called Arrecife Airport, is the island's only airport and sits about 5 km from Arrecife. Arrecife Airport has two terminals and is the third busiest airport in the Canary Islands.
Terminal 1 is the main and busiest terminal, handling all international and domestic flights except Binter, while Terminal 2 is the inter-island terminal. The rental desks are near the baggage reclaim area in both terminal buildings.
The layout is simple. Leaving baggage claim at T1, turn left and walk a little to find the suppliers lined up on the left. In T2 the same providers sit in the arrivals area at the exit from baggage claim, opposite luggage belt 2. The airport is small and modern, with the companies grouped together near the parking garage, so you can finish the whole process in 30 minutes or less and walk from the terminal to the car park.
Suppliers at ACE
The exact desk, floor and pickup point for your booking is confirmed on your voucher - check it before you land.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Bring your voucher, passport or ID, a driving licence valid in Spain, and a card in the main driver's name. The minimum age for hiring a car at Lanzarote Airport is 21, and companies add a charge for drivers under 25. Inspect the car for existing scratches and photograph them before you drive off - it saves any argument at return.
The desks generally run from 07:00 to 21:00, though some such as Hertz and Enterprise staff their counters until 23:00, seven days a week with no reduction at weekends. If your flight lands late, check your supplier's closing time before booking. If a flight is delayed it is best to tell the car hire service as soon as you can, and with a confirmed booking the customer is often waited for.
From the airport the main LZ-2 runs south to Playa Blanca or north to Arrecife and Costa Teguise. Arrecife is about 11 minutes by road. Puerto del Carmen is roughly 10 minutes via the LZ-2 onto the LZ-40, Costa Teguise about 15 to 20 minutes the other way, and Playa Blanca a drive of around 45 minutes.
For the return, refuel before you reach the airport, as this saves on costs. The closest stations are a Cepsa about 0.23 km away and a second Cepsa at 0.42 km. Returning is straightforward: follow the signs for the airport and then the car hire area, park in a bay, remove your belongings and hand the keys to the desk for a quick check. Almost all companies allow 24-hour returns via a key drop box at the airport. One point to note: Sixt vehicles must be returned to their designated area in Terminal 1 whether you picked up at T1 or T2, at Parking P4 on the arrivals floor.
Low-emission zone - good news for rentals
Spanish towns and cities over 50,000 people, including Lanzarote's capital Arrecife, are required to bring in low-emission zones. The good news for you: cars hired in Lanzarote are modern and carry the DGT environmental sticker (0, ECO, C or B) that the zone requires, so a rental can drive into Arrecife with no extra paperwork. The fines target older or foreign-plated private cars, not your hire car.
Both. The desks sit beside baggage reclaim in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Leaving baggage claim at T1, turn left and the suppliers are lined up on the left; in T2 they are at the exit from baggage claim, opposite belt 2.
Most cars are in the car park opposite arrivals, with Record Go and Sixt running a short shuttle. Your voucher states the exact spot.
Most desks run from 07:00 to 21:00, with some such as Hertz and Enterprise open until 23:00, seven days a week. If you land late, check your supplier's closing time before booking.
With a confirmed booking and your flight number on file, you are usually waited for if the flight is delayed.
From ACE the LZ-2 reaches Arrecife in about 11 minutes, Puerto del Carmen in around 10 minutes, Costa Teguise in 15 to 20 minutes, and Playa Blanca in about 45 minutes.
The island is small, so most places are under an hour away.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
To avoid a hold, choose a full cover or no-deposit rate - then a debit card is usually fine and there is no pressure to buy extra cover at the desk.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at ACE and return in Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Fewer suppliers carry automatics, so book one early if you need it, especially in summer when stock sells out first.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
