Terrassa (Tarrasa in Castilian) is the third-largest city in Catalonia with over 220,000 inhabitants, located in the Vallès Occidental comarca 28 kilometres northwest of Barcelona. Terrassa built its prosperity on wool and textiles from the 18th century onwards, and this industrial heritage is preserved in one of Spain's finest museums: the Museu Nacional de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya, housed in a magnificent modernist factory building. Terrassa also has a remarkable ensemble of early Christian and Visigothic churches — the Sant Pere complex, considered for UNESCO World Heritage listing — as well as a vibrant city centre with significant modernist architecture. Barcelona is 30 minutes by road or direct FGC suburban train.

The city centre has paid blue-zone parking on commercial streets and several underground car parks. The largest car park is near the Plaça del Rector Homs. Residential areas have free street parking. The outer ring roads have free parking near the FGC train station.
The C-58 motorway connects Terrassa to Barcelona in 30 minutes southeast and to Manresa in 30 minutes north. The C-16 (Túnel del Cadí) provides access to the Pyrenees. Sabadell is 10 minutes east. Montserrat monastery is 30 minutes southwest. Petrol stations on the C-58 and B-40 ring road.
