Car hire in Xàtiva: what to know

Xàtiva (Játiva in Castilian) is one of the most historically remarkable towns in the Valencia region, 65 kilometres south of Valencia on the inland route towards Alicante. The town is dominated by one of the most impressive castle complexes in eastern Spain — a double fortification strung along a long ridge overlooking the town — with origins going back to the Iberians and later expanded by Romans, Moors, and Christians. Xàtiva has an extraordinary claim to fame: it is the birthplace of Pope Calixtus III (1455) and Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia, 1492), making it the only city in Spain to have produced two popes. The town infamously punishes Felipe V by displaying his portrait upside down in the municipal museum — a grudge dating from the city's destruction in the War of Spanish Succession (1707). Gandia is 25 minutes east and Valencia is 50 minutes north.

Credit card or deposit

Most rentals require a credit card for the security hold. Debit cards are accepted on no-deposit rates — select that option when searching on the site.
