Villajoyosa (La Vila Joiosa in Valencian) is a charming coastal town on the Costa Blanca, 10 kilometres south of Benidorm and 30 kilometres north of Alicante. It is best known for two things: the extraordinary row of brightly painted fishermen's houses along the seafront — said to have been painted in vivid colours so that fishermen could identify their homes from the sea — which make it one of the most photogenic towns on the entire Costa Blanca; and the Valor chocolate factory, one of Spain's most celebrated chocolate producers, which has its headquarters here and offers factory tours and a museum dedicated to Spanish chocolate-making history. The town also has a pleasant sandy beach, a well-preserved historic centre with Roman remains, and a lively local character untouched by mass tourism.

There is paid parking along the seafront and in the town centre in summer. Free parking is available in the residential streets north of the centre and on the approach roads. The chocolate factory museum has a free car park.
The AP-7 motorway runs 5 minutes inland: Benidorm is 10 minutes north and Alicante Airport is 30 minutes south. El Campello and its beach tramway are 15 minutes south. Altea and its white village are 15 minutes north. The coastal N-332 road passes through the town. Petrol stations on the AP-7 and N-332.
