Car rental in Costa Teguise for the Jameos del Agua (10 min), the Jardin de Cactus and the Cueva de los Verdes lava tube caves.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Airport & city pickup
Desks at the airport and in the city centre.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most driving from here is short hops on good, quiet roads. Pick by group size and how far north you plan to go, not by looks.
Economy
Cheapest to run and easy to park in the resort. Fine for two people doing day trips.
Automatic
Easier on the climb up to Mirador del Rio. Automatics are limited on Lanzarote, so book early.
7-seater & van
For families or two couples sharing, with room for beach kit and a buggy.
Luxury
A step up for the coast runs. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Costa Teguise is a compact, level resort you can walk end to end, so you do not need a car to reach the beach or the shops. The value of car rental in Costa Teguise is its position: it sits on the east coast within easy reach of the north of Lanzarote, so one pickup turns a beach week into an island tour.
If your plan is a week by the pool with two or three days of sightseeing, hiring for those days only is often cheaper than a full week. Over a dozen car rental firms cluster along the main hotel strips, and there is no need to hire from the airport for a full week if you only plan two or three days of sightseeing.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
The resort is well placed for the north and centre of the island, where most of the famous sights sit. Rough drives from Costa Teguise:
Day drives from Costa Teguise
You can drive from north to south in around 45 minutes, so nowhere on Lanzarote is far. Arrecife, the capital, is only a few kilometres south if you want shops and the castles.
Most roads are wide and in good condition, and visibility is generally very good. There are no toll roads in Lanzarote. Costa Teguise has no low-emission zone, so any hire car can drive in and around the resort freely - the access restrictions you read about for Spanish cities do not apply here.
Two local points trip people up. Any child under 12 or under 1 metre 35 cm must sit in the back, or you risk a EUR 200 fine. And if you get caught driving in flip-flops you can be fined EUR 200. The alcohol limit is 0.05 per cent, lower than the UK - a very small glass of wine or low-alcohol beer.
Larger resorts like Costa Teguise have many car parks as well as areas offering free parking. Use a marked car park where you can, and avoid white, yellow or blue lined bays unless you are sure of the rules.
Quick checks at pickup
Most Costa Teguise car hire locations are near Playa de las Cucharas, one of the resort's most popular beaches. Collecting in the resort the morning after you arrive avoids driving an unfamiliar car straight off a flight, and means you only pay for the days you actually need. The airport is only about 15 km away if you would rather start there - that pickup is covered on the Lanzarote page.
Costa Teguise is the most exposed of the island's main resorts. It is the least sheltered and most northerly, so in winter it can be cooler, cloudier and windier here than in resorts to the south. Those factors fade from around March onwards. Spring and autumn give warm, settled days and quieter roads. July and August are the peak: prices rise and automatics and 7-seaters go first, so book several weeks ahead. Island prices run higher than mainland Spain because everything is imported, which makes booking early worth more here than elsewhere.
Most pickup points sit near Playa de las Cucharas, a few minutes from the main hotels. Collecting in the resort lets you skip the airport queue and only pay for the days you drive.
The airport, about 15 km away, is an alternative covered on the Lanzarote page.
No. Roads are wide, well kept and quiet, with no toll roads and no low-emission zone in the resort.
Watch the local rules: children under 12 ride in the back, the drink limit is lower than the UK, and driving in flip-flops can bring a fine.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Taking the car by ferry to Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria or the other islands must be agreed with the supplier in advance, and not all of them allow it.
It is often simpler to hire a separate car on the second island. If you plan a ferry, check the terms with our support team.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect in Costa Teguise and return at Lanzarote Airport or in Playa Blanca.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Lanzarote. Automatics cost more and are in shorter supply, so book one early if you need it - it makes the climb up to Mirador del Rio in the north easier.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
