No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Airport & city pickup
Desks at the airport and in the city centre.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Sitges streets are narrow and parking is tight in summer, so size matters here. Pick by group and where you plan to drive, not by looks.
Economy
Small and cheap to run, the easiest size to slot into a Sitges car park or a tight street.
Automatic
Easier on the Garraf cliff bends and through the C-32 tunnels. Automatics are limited, so book early.
7-seater & van
For families or two couples sharing, with room for beach gear and luggage on the airport run.
Luxury
The natural pick for the coast road south towards Tarragona. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Sitges is a compact seafront town, so inside it you walk. The 17 beaches, the old centre and the seafront promenade are all close together, and on-street parking near the beaches fills up fast in summer with inspectors patrolling regularly. The value of car rental in Sitges is not the town itself - it is everything within an easy drive, from the wine country inland to Tarragona down the coast.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
The two ways out of town tell you most of what you need to know.
The C-32 Pau Casals motorway runs through the Garraf tunnels and is the fast route - Barcelona is about 35 to 45 minutes north, longer in summer traffic, and Tarragona lies down the same road to the south. The toll through the Garraf tunnels is over EUR 7 a journey, among the more expensive in the country, with discounts for cars carrying three or more people.
The alternative is the C-31 Costes del Garraf, a coast road of around 17 km and over 100 bends along the cliffs, with several lookout points and beach access. It is slower - you can get stuck behind a quarry truck with nowhere to overtake - but the sea views are the reason to take it.
For a longer day, the Penedes wine country is a short drive inland, and Tarragona with its Roman ruins is reachable down the C-32. Both Barcelona and Tarragona have their own pages. The point for Sitges is that one pickup reaches all of them and you are back the same evening.
Most car hire in Sitges starts at Barcelona Airport (BCN), 27 km away, where the desks and the cheapest rates are - the drive in is about 27 to 30 minutes via the B-22, C-31 and C-32 to exit 30. Names you will see at the airport include Goldcar, Centauro and Sixt. Compare them in one search and pick an no-deposit rate to skip the deposit hold.
In Sitges itself, on-street parking in the controlled zones is patrolled and competitive in season. There are several parking garages plus a municipal car park near Can Robert on Carrer Victor Balaguer. If your accommodation has private parking, that is the simplest answer; if not, budget for a garage rather than circling for a free space.
Driving into Barcelona's low-emission zone
Sitges has no low-emission zone of its own. The one to know about is Barcelona's, which covers the city centre between the ring roads. If you drive in towards the city, a hire car picked up in Spain already carries the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires, so it can enter the zone with no extra paperwork. The registration hassle and the fine target older or foreign-plated private cars, not your rental. Check the windscreen for the sticker at pickup and photograph it.
Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September into October) are the easiest stretches to drive - warm, quieter roads, and parking far less of a fight than in peak summer. July and August are the busy months: prices climb, automatics and 7-seaters go first, the C-31 coast road clogs with beach traffic, and Sitges parking turns into a genuine headache, so book several weeks ahead. Winter is the cheapest stretch, and a car still earns its keep for the inland and Tarragona trips once the beach season is over.

Yes. Sitges has no low-emission zone, and Barcelona's zone is met by any car rented in Spain, which carries the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires. Check the windscreen sticker at pickup and photograph it.
The fines only apply to older or foreign-plated private cars.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Andorra is about 2.5 hours from Sitges and the French border is roughly the same. Cross-border trips must be agreed with the supplier in advance - there may be a small service fee and extra insurance.
To see cars allowed across the border, use the filter option or contact our support team. Do not cross the border undeclared.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect in Sitges and return in Tarragona or Barcelona.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics cost more and sell out first, especially in summer, so book one early if you need it - it makes the Garraf cliff bends and the C-32 tunnels easier.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
