Desks in one terminal
All suppliers sit in the single Arrivals hall at Gando, so there is no shuttle hunt.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
The island is small but hilly, so pick by group size and how far south you are driving, not by looks.
Small & budget
Cheapest off the plane and easy on the GC-1 run south. Fine for two.
Automatic
Easier on the climbs into the interior. Automatics are limited, so reserve early.
7-seater & van
Room for the family and the luggage trolley on the resort transfer.
Luxury & convertible
Start the coast trip in style from arrivals. Deposits run higher on these.
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), known locally as Gando, is the busiest airport in the Canaries and the gateway to the whole island. It sits 19 kilometres south of Las Palmas and 25 kilometres from the popular resorts of Maspalomas.
LPA has one large passenger terminal, which keeps navigation simple - all formalities take place in a single building. The car hire companies are on the ground floor in the Arrivals area. Many of the desks sit in Zone A, the walkway connecting International and EU Arrivals.
On-site companies keep their cars in the P2 parking area, a 4 to 5 minute walk from the passenger area, so you can hit the road soon after signing. A handful of suppliers run a free shuttle instead. OK Mobility has an office 400 metres from the terminal and Record Go sits about 3 kilometres south, both with complimentary shuttles to their counters. Your voucher names the exact desk and pickup point - read it before you land.
Suppliers at LPA
The exact desk and meeting point for your booking is confirmed on your rental voucher. Print it or have it on your phone.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport or ID card and a driving licence ready at the desk. When completing the paperwork you must present a Spanish or international driving licence, plus a passport or ID card. To rent you need to be at least 21, and anyone under 25 pays a daily surcharge. Inspect the car for existing scratches and photograph them before you drive off.
One Gran Canaria-specific point: the terminal is closed to the public from midnight to 4:00 a.m. Most desks run into the evening, but if your flight lands very late, check the closing time on your supplier before you book - a missed pickup is hard to recover. Some companies offer key-collection or after-hours arrangements, sometimes for a small fee, so ask when you book.
The GC-1 motorway runs right past the airport, so you are on it within minutes - about a 20 to 25 minute drive into Las Palmas. From the airport, central Las Palmas is north on the coast-hugging GC-1, exiting at junction 16. For the south, follow the signs for "GC-1 Sur" as you leave.
The southern resorts are a short, simple run. It is about 20 miles to Maspalomas, roughly a 23-minute drive. After about 30 km, take exit 46 signposted GC-500 San Fernando - Maspalomas, then follow the road to the Maspalomas roundabout. Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico sit further along the same coast, each within reach in under an hour. One tip from drivers who know the road: watch for the speed camera shortly after you join the motorway.
There is no urban low-emission zone to worry about on Gran Canaria - the ZBE rules that affect mainland cities like Madrid and Barcelona do not apply here, so your hire car can drive anywhere on the island without extra paperwork.
Returning the car
In the single terminal. The desks are on the ground floor of the Arrivals area, many in Zone A, the walkway connecting International and EU Arrivals.
On-site suppliers keep their cars in the P2 car park, a 4 to 5 minute walk away. A few firms run a free shuttle to a nearby office - your voucher states which applies to you.
Most desks open into the evening, but the terminal closes to the public from midnight to 4:00 a.m. If you land very late, check your supplier's closing time before booking, and ask about key collection or an after-hours arrangement.
About 32 km, roughly a 25-minute drive. Leave the airport following the GC-1 Sur, stay on the motorway, then take exit 46 for the GC-500 San Fernando - Maspalomas.
Playa del Ingles and Puerto Rico are along the same coast.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at LPA and return in Maspalomas or Las Palmas.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. An automatic is easier on the climbs into the interior, but stock is limited and costs more, so book one early if you need it.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
