Car rental in Lloret de Mar for the Costa Brava cove circuit - Sa Boadella, Cala Treumal - and the medieval town of Tossa de Mar (15 min).
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Airport & city pickup
Desks at the airport and in the city centre.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most driving here is short coast hops plus the odd inland run. Pick by group size and how much of the GI-682 you plan to drive, not by looks.
Economy
Cheap to run and the easiest thing to fit into a Lloret car park in August.
Automatic
Easier on the bends of the GI-682 to Tossa. Automatics are limited in Spain, so book early.
7-seater & van
For families or two couples sharing, with room for beach gear and luggage.
Luxury
A nicer drive along the coast road. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Lloret de Mar works fine on foot once you are there - the centre, the promenade and the main beach are all walkable, and local buses run between the districts. Where car rental in Lloret de Mar pays off is the moment you want to leave the resort: the coves up the GI-682, the city of Girona inland, or the quieter beaches on either side.
There is no train station in Lloret. The nearest railway station is in Blanes, which connects southwards to Barcelona and northwards on the commuter network. That gap is the main reason a hire car is useful here - it covers the routes the trains do not reach.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
The short trips are the best ones here. The driving distance from Lloret de Mar to Tossa de Mar is about 7 miles, roughly 13 minutes by car. That run is along the GI-682, a winding coastal road in the province of Girona - scenic and exhilarating, but one to take slowly, with cliffs and sea views the whole way.
Blanes sits just south, the southernmost town on the Costa Brava and a few minutes down the GI-682. Inland, Girona is about 32 kilometres (20 miles) from Lloret de Mar - roughly 40 minutes by road and the obvious half-day trip.
One pickup in Lloret reaches all three and you are back the same evening. That is why many visitors rent here even when they stay in the resort for most of the week.
Lloret has no airport of its own. The closest airports are Girona, about 30 km away, and Barcelona, about 75 km. Driving in, you take the coastal C-32 motorway from the Barcelona side, then the GI-600 towards Blanes and the GI-682 into Lloret for the last stretch; from the French side it is the AP-7 to exit 9 (Lloret de Mar).
Inside the town, plan to park and walk. The centre of Lloret de Mar is largely given over to pedestrians, with traffic restrictions in that area. Parking is regulated by the municipality, split between a Green Zone (mainly for residents) and a Blue Zone (paid, for everyone). In high season spaces near the beach fill fast, so a hotel with its own parking, or a booked car park, saves you circling.
Quick checks at pickup
Many visitors collect at Girona or Barcelona airport and drive in, but you can also arrange a pickup local to the resort. Names operating in the area include Goldcar and Centauro. Whichever you choose, an no-deposit rate with full cover built in avoids a deposit hold and the desk upsell.
The beach season here runs from roughly May to October, and that is also when a car is most useful for the coast hops. Late spring (May, June) and September are the easiest stretches to drive - warm, with the sea still swimmable in September and the roads calmer than midsummer. July and August are the peak: prices climb, automatics and 7-seaters go first, and the Blue Zone fills early, so book several weeks ahead. Winter is the cheapest time and a car still makes sense if your plan is Girona and inland day trips rather than the beach.
Tossa de Mar is about 11 km along the coastal GI-682, roughly 13 minutes. Girona is about 32 km inland, around 40 minutes by road.
Both are easy same-day trips from Lloret.
The town centre is mostly pedestrian with traffic restrictions, so park and walk. Parking is split into a Green Zone (mainly residents) and a paid Blue Zone, plus several car parks.
In high season beachfront spaces fill fast, so a hotel with parking or a pre-booked car park is easiest.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Andorra is about 2.5 hours from Lloret and the French border roughly 1.5 hours up the coast. Cross-border trips must be agreed with the supplier in advance - there may be a small service fee and extra insurance.
To see cars allowed across the border, use the filter option or contact our support team. Do not cross the border undeclared.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect in Lloret de Mar and return in Girona or Barcelona.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics cost more and sell out first in summer, so book one early if you want it - it makes the winding GI-682 to Tossa de Mar easier to drive.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
