La Cala de Mijas is a popular beach resort on the Costa del Sol, part of the municipality of Mijas, situated between Fuengirola and Marbella. The village has a long sandy beach, a compact centre with seafront restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere that attracts a largely international clientele — British and Scandinavian visitors in particular. A car gives access to Mijas Pueblo, the spectacular white hilltop village 7 kilometres inland, and to the golf courses and luxury hotels of the Golf Valley nearby. Málaga Airport is about 25 minutes east on the A-7.

The beach area has paid parking in summer along the main seafront road. Residential streets a short walk from the beach have more free spaces. The village car park near the church is a practical option for a half-day visit.
The A-7 coast road links La Cala de Mijas to Fuengirola in 15 minutes east and Marbella in 20 minutes west. Málaga Airport is 25 minutes east on the A-7. Mijas Pueblo is 10 minutes inland on the MA-426 mountain road. Petrol stations on the A-7 and in Calahonda.
