Blanes is the southernmost town of the Costa Brava, marking the gateway where the rugged coastline begins its dramatic northward run toward the French border. Two wide sandy beaches flank the town, and the celebrated Marimurtra Botanical Garden — one of the finest in the Mediterranean — clings to the cliffs above the sea. Renting a car gives full access to the Costa Brava's hidden coves, the Romanesque churches of the Empordà, and Girona's medieval old city 30 kilometres north. Barcelona Airport is about 60 kilometres south.

A public car park near the seafront serves most visitors. Street parking in the town centre is paid in summer. The area around the botanical garden has limited roadside spaces.
The C-32 motorway connects Blanes to Barcelona in about 55 minutes and to Girona in 30 minutes. Lloret de Mar is 5 minutes north. Tossa de Mar is 20 minutes further along the coast road, which is scenic but steep. Petrol stations in town and on the C-32 approach.
