Castellón de la Plana is the capital of the Castellón province, sitting 3 kilometres inland from its port district El Grao de Castellón on the Gulf of Valencia. The city has a fine Gothic basilica, a pleasant historic centre, and the nearby beaches of El Grao and Benicàssim draw summer visitors. Its central position on the Mediterranean corridor makes it an ideal base — Valencia is 70 kilometres south on the A-7, Tarragona is 140 kilometres north, and the festival town of Benicàssim is just 10 minutes away.
