Desks in one arrivals hall
GRX has a single terminal, so every rental desk is steps from baggage reclaim.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most trips from GRX are motorway plus a climb towards Granada and the Sierra Nevada. Pick by group size and how high you are driving, not by looks.
Economy
Cheapest off the plane and easy to park in the city. Fine for two with light luggage.
Automatic
Easier on the climb up to the Sierra Nevada. Automatics are limited in Spain, so book early.
7-seater & van
Room for a family and the bags on the airport run and the drive to the coast.
Luxury
Start the trip in something larger. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Granada (Federico García Lorca) Airport (GRX) sits in the village of Chauchina, about 17 kilometres west of Granada on the A-92. It is a compact, single-terminal airport, which makes the rental setup simple: you land, collect your bags and the desks are right there.
A key feature of the airport is its single passenger terminal, which unites all service zones under one roof. The car hire desks sit in the arrivals hall, and on the ground floor too. The car rental desks are located directly opposite the exit doors from the baggage area. The vehicles are parked in a dedicated section of the main car park just a short walk from the terminal exit.
A few suppliers keep their cars off-site and run a short courtesy shuttle from outside arrivals instead of parking in the main lot. Your voucher tells you which arrangement applies to your booking, so read it before you land.
Suppliers at GRX
The exact desk and pickup point for your booking is confirmed on your rental voucher - check it before you land.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport, and a driving licence held for at least a year ready at the desk - it keeps the queue short. A full licence, a credit card, the voucher we will send you when you complete your booking, and a passport are what the main driver needs. Drivers under 25 usually pay a young-driver surcharge, and the minimum age is generally 21.
GRX is a quieter airport that handles mostly domestic flights, so very late arrivals are less common than at Malaga - but desk hours still follow the flight schedule rather than running round the clock. If your flight lands late, check the closing time on your supplier before you book, as a missed pickup is hard to recover. Inspect the car for existing scratches and photograph them before you drive off.
GRX has direct access to the A-92 motorway, offering straightforward connections from Granada, Malaga, Seville and Almeria. From the car park you join the A-92 within minutes, then switch to the A-44 for the city. Take the A-92G highway, which directly connects Granada city centre to the airport in about 20 minutes.
For the Sierra Nevada, stay on the ring road round Granada and pick up the A-395 up the mountain - the ski station is roughly 45 minutes to an hour from the airport depending on snow and traffic. An automatic makes that climb easier if you are not used to a manual on long gradients.
Driving into central Granada
Granada has a low-emission zone in the historic centre, with camera enforcement. The good news for renters: cars hired in Spain already carry the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires, so a car picked up at GRX can drive in with no extra paperwork. The fines target older or foreign-plated private cars, not your hire car. Parking in the centre is tight, so a smaller car helps.
When you return, fuel up before the airport, as there is a petrol station located on the access road to the airport, making it easy to top up before returning the vehicle. The most transparent option is full-to-full, where you return the car with a full tank to avoid high refuelling surcharges. Follow the car hire return signs to the ground-floor car park, where the supplier bays are. For an after-hours return, check whether your company uses a key drop-box and where it is - the voucher will say.
Malaga Airport (AGP) is about 90 minutes away by the A-92 and A-45 and carries far more international flights, so a one-way pickup at Malaga returning at GRX is worth comparing if your inbound flight lands there. Flag any one-way drop when you book rather than at the desk, as it is priced separately.

Most suppliers park their cars in a dedicated section of the main car park a short walk away; a few run a short courtesy shuttle to a nearby branch. Your voucher states which applies to your booking.
About 20 minutes via the A-92 and A-44, covering roughly 17 km.
For the Sierra Nevada ski station, allow 45 minutes to an hour on the A-395, depending on snow and traffic.
Yes. Cars rented in Spain already carry the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires, so a hire car picked up at the airport can enter with no extra registration.
The fines only apply to older or foreign-plated private cars.
If your destination is Granada or the Sierra Nevada, GRX saves about 90 minutes of driving.
Malaga Airport carries more international flights, so if you land there, compare a one-way pickup at Malaga returning at GRX - just flag the one-way drop when you book.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at GRX and return in Granada or at Malaga Airport.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics cost more and sell out first, especially in summer, so book one early if you need it - it is easier on the climb up to the Sierra Nevada.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
