Crevillente is a small industrial town in southern Alicante province, internationally recognised as the carpet-making capital of Spain — its factories produce a large share of the country's machine-made rugs. The town sits in a dry sierra landscape 20 kilometres southwest of Alicante Airport, making it an easy pick-up point for exploring the southern Costa Blanca. Torrevieja's salt lakes and beaches are 20 minutes south, the lagoon nature reserve of El Hondo is practically on the doorstep, and the entire stretch from Alicante to Murcia is within comfortable day-trip distance.
