Alcoy (Alcoi in Valencian) is a mid-sized city set in a dramatic gorge in the interior of Alicante province, at the confluence of three river valleys surrounded by mountain ranges. The city is best known for its spectacular Moors and Christians festival each April — one of the most elaborate in Spain. A rental car gives access to the surrounding mountains, the beaches of the Costa Blanca 45 minutes south, and historic towns throughout the Valencia region. Alicante Airport is about one hour away.

The city centre has paid street parking in the blue zone. Car parks near the town hall and bus station provide reliable alternatives. On the outskirts, parking is generally free.
Alcoy is on the N-340 and CV-70; the AP-7 motorway is about 20 minutes east. Benidorm and Calpe are about 45 minutes south; Alicante 55 minutes southeast; Valencia 70 minutes north. Petrol stations on the main entry roads to the city.
