Segovia is one of the most spectacular medieval cities in Spain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous above all for its remarkable Roman aqueduct — a structure of 167 arches built in the 1st or 2nd century AD that stands 28 metres tall and runs for 728 metres through the city without a drop of mortar, still astonishing after 2,000 years. The Alcázar of Segovia, a fairy-tale castle rising dramatically from a rocky promontory at the meeting point of two rivers, is one of the most recognisable buildings in Spain and is said to have inspired Walt Disney's castle in Sleeping Beauty. The city also has a magnificent Romanesque cathedral and is renowned for its gastronomy, particularly cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig) and judiones de La Granja (giant white beans). Madrid is 90 kilometres south via the A-6 or AP-61.

The historic centre is largely pedestrianised and difficult to drive in. The most practical approach is to park in one of the supervised car parks near the aqueduct (Parking Aqueduct) or on the edge of the old city at the Alcázar car park. There is paid parking on streets near the old town. Free parking is available further out in the modern town districts.
Segovia is 90 km north of Madrid via the AP-61 motorway or the A-6 (both about 1 hour). San Lorenzo de El Escorial is 35 km south over the Puerto de Navacerrada pass or 50 min via motorway. Valladolid is 1 hour northwest. The A-601 leads to La Granja de San Ildefonso (royal palace) 10 minutes southeast. Petrol stations on the AP-61 and N-110.
