Car rental in Alcudia for the Cap de Formentor peninsula (45 min), the Albufereta nature reserve and the medieval walled town within walking distance.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Airport & city pickup
Desks at the airport and in the city centre.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Driving here is flat motorway to the Ma-13 plus some narrow coast roads to the north. Pick by group size and where you plan to go, not by looks.
Economy
Cheap to run and easy to park in Alcudia's old town. Fine for two people on the bay.
Automatic
Easier on the bends up to Formentor. Automatics are limited on the island, so book early.
7-seater & van
For families or two couples sharing, with room for beach kit on the longer drives.
Luxury
A comfortable pick for touring the north coast. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Alcudia sits at the far northern tip of Mallorca, on the opposite side of the island from the airport. Son Sant Joan Airport is about 8 km east of Palma, and Alcudia sits at the far northern tip of the island, roughly 60 km away via the Ma-13 motorway, which takes between 40 and 55 minutes by car. That distance is the main reason to rent: a car saves you a long transfer and then lets you reach the north coast on your own schedule.
Within the resort itself you can walk between the old town, the port and the beach, and the TIB buses cover the bays. Car rental in Alcudia earns its keep the moment you want to leave the resort - the medieval town up the road, the cape drive, or a beach the bus does not reach.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
The north of the island is compact, so most drives from Alcudia are short. The driving distance from Alcudia to Pollensa is about 7 miles and takes roughly 12 minutes. Port de Pollensa is a similar hop, and from there the road climbs out to Cap de Formentor, the northernmost point, on a winding cliff route. Cap de Formentor is a protected natural area reached via a scenic 17.5 km road from Pollensa.
South of the bay, the long sandy strip runs through Platja de Muro to Can Picafort, backing onto the S'Albufera wetland park. Further afield, Palma and its cathedral are about an hour back down the Ma-13, so a day in the capital is easy from here. Mallorca as a whole opens up from one pickup -.
Short drives from Alcudia
This is the one local rule to plan around. The cape road has seasonal car restrictions to keep traffic down. For 2026 the access restrictions run from 15 May to 15 October, with the road closed daily from 10:00 to 22:00. During the restriction period, access to the Formentor peninsula is only allowed by public transport, on foot or by bicycle.
Outside those dates and hours you can drive the cape freely in your hire car. In season, the workaround is to go very early - before the morning closure - or take the shuttle bus from Port de Pollensa. Fill up before leaving Pollensa, as there are no fuel stops along the Cap de Formentor route.
You have two options. Most visitors collect at the airport on arrival, where the desks and the cheapest rates are, then drive the hour north. Picking up in Alcudia itself avoids paying for a car while it sits at your hotel, but the choice of cars is smaller, so book ahead - automatics in particular go first. Either way, an no-deposit rate with full cover built in avoids a deposit hold.
Spring (April to June) and early autumn (September into October) are the easiest times to drive here - warm, quieter roads, and the Formentor cape still open to cars for part of October. July and August are the peak: prices climb, automatics and 7-seaters go first, and the north coast roads get busy with cars and cyclists, so book several weeks ahead. Winter is the cheapest stretch, and a car still makes sense for the inland towns once the beach season is over.
About 60 km via the Ma-13 motorway, which takes roughly 40 to 55 minutes depending on traffic and the time of year.
Many visitors collect their hire car at the airport on arrival and drive straight up.
Yes, but check the dates. For 2026 the cape road is closed to private cars daily from 10:00 to 22:00 between 15 May and 15 October. Outside those dates and hours you can drive it freely; in season, go very early or take the shuttle bus from Port de Pollensa.
Fill up first, as there are no fuel stops on the peninsula.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Taking the car by ferry to Menorca, Ibiza or the mainland must be agreed with the supplier in advance, and not all of them allow it.
It is often simpler to hire a separate car on the second island. If you plan a ferry, check the terms with our support team.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect in Alcudia and return in Pollensa or at Palma airport.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Manuals are cheaper and more widely available across the island. Automatics cost more and sell out first, especially in summer, so book one early if you need it.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
