Costa Adeje works fine without a car for a beach week. The promenade runs unbroken from Los Cristianos through to La Caleta, and the resort itself is walkable, though it slopes up steeply away from the seafront. What car rental in Costa Adeje buys you is the rest of the island - Teide, the west-coast cliffs and the quieter southern beaches - on your own schedule rather than waiting on a bus.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Almost everything runs off the TF-1 motorway that passes the resort, so day trips are short. Tenerife South Airport (TFS) is about 16 to 23 km away, roughly 13 to 25 minutes on the TF-1. Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas sit just to the south, around 15 minutes by car.

Day trips from Costa Adeje
The point for Costa Adeje is that one pickup reaches all of this and you are back the same evening. That is why many people who stay put for most of the week still rent for two or three days.
The resort is built around hotels, and most four- and five-star properties have their own parking - check whether yours charges per night before you book the car. On the street, blue-lined bays are pay-and-display and the shopping centres at San Eugenio and the marina have paid car parks. Spaces near Playa del Duque and Fañabe fill up by mid-morning in summer, so arrive early or use a centre car park.
Tenerife has no low-emission zone, so there is nothing to register and no environmental restriction on driving into the resort or the capital. That is one less thing to think about compared with the mainland cities.
Quick checks at pickup
Most car hire in Costa Adeje starts at Tenerife South Airport, where the desks and the cheapest rates are, and the drive in is short. The TF-1 passes Costa Adeje, and from the airport you head south towards Los Cristianos, then take the Torviscas / Playa Fañabe exit. Some suppliers also have offices in the resort and around Playa de las Americas if you would rather collect after a day or two on the beach. Either way, an no-deposit rate with full cover built in avoids a deposit hold.
The south coast is warm and dry year-round, so the question is more about price and crowds than weather. Average temperatures run from about 19C in winter to 25C in summer. July and August are the peak: rates climb and automatics and 7-seaters go first, so book several weeks ahead. Spring and autumn are quieter and cheaper, and winter is the cheapest stretch of all - still good for the Teide drive and the west coast once the beach is less of a draw.
