Sample prices for a 7-day rental. Final price, deposit and terms are confirmed on Localrent.

Desks in one terminal

REU has a single terminal, so every rental desk is in the same arrivals hall.

No-deposit options

About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.

Full insurance

Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.

Free cancellation

Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.

Car types at Reus Airport

Most drives from REU are short hops to the Costa Daurada resorts plus the odd run inland. Pick by group size and distance, not by looks.

Car hire at Reus Airport (REU)

Reus Airport (REU) is the Costa Daurada's holiday gateway, with most flights coming from the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany. It is small and seasonal, so the rental setup is simple - one terminal, all desks in the same place.

Where the desks are: one terminal, one arrivals hall

REU runs from a single passenger terminal over two levels, with arrivals and the baggage belts on the ground floor and departures upstairs. The car hire desks sit in that ground-floor arrivals hall, just past baggage reclaim - follow the "car hire" signs after you collect your bags. Because there is only one terminal, there is no inter-terminal shuttle to worry about and no complicated wayfinding.

For the suppliers on this site, the cars are parked within walking distance of the terminal, so you collect on foot rather than via a bus.

Suppliers at REU

  • Goldcar - desk in the arrivals hall, cars parked nearby with no shuttle; some Goldcar bookings can also be collected in Reus city, so check your voucher.
  • Centauro - also at Reus Airport; confirm the exact pickup point on your booking.

The exact desk and pickup point for your booking is always confirmed on your rental voucher - check it before you land.

Payment and deposit

When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.

Picking up, documents and late arrivals

Have your voucher, passport or ID, and a driving licence held for at least a year ready at the desk - some suppliers ask for the licence to have been held longer, so check the conditions on your booking. Drivers aged 21 to 24 usually pay a young-driver surcharge, roughly EUR 10 to 25 a day.

REU is a leisure airport, so desk hours follow the flight schedule rather than running around the clock. If your flight lands late or is delayed, check the closing time and the after-hours policy on your supplier before you book - out-of-hours pickup and return often need to be arranged in advance and your flight number passed on. For an after-hours return, follow the supplier's instructions and leave the keys and contract in the drop box by their desk. Walk round the car and photograph any existing scratches before you drive off.

Driving out of REU and the roads from the airport

The airport sits just off the T-11, which links straight to Reus in about 12 minutes and Tarragona in around 20. The AP-7 motorway, the main coastal route, is about five minutes from the airport - it is a toll road, but the machines take UK credit and debit cards. For the resorts you can skip the motorway and use local roads.

Salou is about ten minutes away, Cambrils a short drive beyond it, and Tarragona roughly ten to twenty minutes. There is no petrol station at the airport itself, so fill up in Reus or Tarragona before you return the car. On the way back, follow the "car hire return" signs to your supplier's car park, where staff inspect the car and take the keys.

Low-emission zones - not a worry for your hire car

You do not pass a low-emission zone driving out of REU to the Costa Daurada resorts. If you head further to a bigger city with a zone, the rule is the same everywhere: cars rented in Spain carry the DGT environmental sticker that the zones require, so a rental can drive in with no extra paperwork. The fines only target older or foreign-plated private cars, not yours.

Reus Airport car hire FAQ

Where are the car hire desks at Reus Airport?+

REU has a single terminal, and the rental desks are in the ground-floor arrivals hall just past baggage reclaim. Follow the "car hire" signs after collecting your bags.

The cars are parked within walking distance, so for the suppliers here there is no shuttle. Your voucher confirms the exact pickup point.

Can I pick up a hire car late at night at Reus Airport?+

REU is a seasonal leisure airport, so desk hours follow the flight schedule rather than running 24 hours. If you land late or are delayed, check your supplier's closing time and after-hours policy before booking, as out-of-hours pickup often needs arranging in advance with your flight number.

How far is Salou from Reus Airport by car?+

About 10 minutes. Cambrils is a short drive beyond it and Tarragona is roughly 10 to 20 minutes. The T-11 links to Reus in about 12 minutes, and the AP-7 coastal motorway is around 5 minutes from the airport.

Do you need a credit card to hire a car at Reus Airport?+

A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.

To avoid a hold, choose a full cover or no-deposit rate - then a debit card is usually fine and there is no pressure to buy extra cover at the desk.

What is the deposit when you hire a car?+

The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.

If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.

How large is the deposit at pickup?+

It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.

You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.

Can you hire a car with no deposit?+

Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.

Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.

What is the difference between the deposit and the excess?+

The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.

The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.

In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.

What does the insurance cover?+

Cover comes in levels:

  • TPL (third-party liability) - compulsory and always included; covers damage you cause to others.
  • CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) - covers damage to the hire car itself, except glass and tyres.
  • Super CDW - reduces or removes the excess and covers what CDW does not, including glass and wheels; with it the car is usually given with no deposit.

You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.

What is the difference between minimum, basic and full cover?+
  • Minimum cover - only damage to other cars; you pay for your own car's bodywork, glass and wheels.
  • Basic (CDW) - adds partial cover for your car in an accident, but not glass or tyres.
  • Full cover (Super CDW) - covers all damage, including glass and wheels, and nothing is taken from the deposit.

If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.

Can you pay for the rental in cash?+

Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.

You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.

Can you pay with cryptocurrency?+

Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.

Can I return the car somewhere other than Reus Airport?+

Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at REU and return in Salou, Tarragona or Barcelona.

By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.

Are hire cars at Reus Airport automatic or manual?+

Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics are available but in shorter supply and cost more, so book one well ahead if you need it.

What documents do you need to hire a car?+

You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.

It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.

What is the minimum driving experience?+

To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
