San Bartolomé de Tirajana is the large municipality that administers much of southern Gran Canaria, including the resort areas of Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, Meloneras, and Bahia Feliz. The historic inland town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana itself sits at around 900 metres above sea level, surrounded by dramatic volcanic scenery and traditional Canarian villages. A car is essential for exploring both the quiet mountain town and the lively coastal resorts below.
