Car rental at Malaga Airport (AGP) - Terminals 2 and 3 both have on-site rental desks. Compare prices from 15+ operators at Andalusia's busiest airport.
Sample prices for a 7-day rental. Final price, deposit and terms are confirmed on Localrent.
Desks in T2 and T3
On-site suppliers in the T2 basement and on the T3 ground floor by the carousels.
No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most drives from AGP are motorway along the Costa del Sol with the odd run inland. Pick by group size and distance, not by looks.
Economy
Cheapest off the plane and easy on the MA-21 into town. Fine for two with cabin bags.
Automatic
Limited at AGP and first to sell out in summer, so reserve before you fly.
7-seater & van
Room for a family and the luggage trolley on the airport run.
Luxury
The natural pick for the western Costa del Sol. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Malaga Airport (AGP) handles more than 20 rental firms, but only a handful sit inside the terminal, so the first thing to get right is where your desk is.
The two working terminals are joined and a short walk apart. The original Terminal 1 no longer handles commercial flights; Terminal 2 mainly takes non-Schengen and non-EU arrivals, and Terminal 3, opened in 2010, is the main terminal for most flights.
For the on-site companies, in Terminal 2 the desks are in the basement, and in Terminal 3 they are on the ground floor. In T2 you cross a ramp in the arrivals hall and head down one level; in T3 the desks sit by the baggage carousels. If you land at T3 and your supplier is in T2, the terminals connect, so it is a walk rather than a transfer.
Off-site firms keep their cars on Avenida Garcia Morato, the main road into the airport, and run a courtesy shuttle from the terminal. Your voucher names the exact desk and pickup point, so read it before you land.
Suppliers at AGP
The exact desk and car park for your booking is confirmed on your voucher - check it before you fly.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport, a driving licence held for at least a year, and the booking card ready at the desk - it keeps the queue short after a long flight. Booking in advance online can save roughly 30 to 50 per cent compared with renting on the spot at the airport. The minimum age is generally 21, and drivers under 25 usually pay a young-driver surcharge.
the on-site pickup is straightforward. After renting, you go to the car rental pickup area on Levels 0 and -1 of the P2 car park. Most desks run late into the evening, but hours vary by supplier, so if your flight lands after midnight, check the closing time before you book - a missed pickup is hard to recover. Inspect the car for scratches and photograph them before you drive off.
AGP sits about 8 km southwest of the city. The drive from the airport to the city centre takes about 15 to 20 minutes via the MA-21 or MA-20. For the coast, you join the A-7 or the AP-7 toll road and skip the city altogether - Marbella is roughly 35 minutes west, Nerja about 50 minutes east, and Granada around 1 hour 30 inland.
Malaga's low-emission zone (ZBE) - good news for rentals
Central Malaga has a low-emission zone with camera enforcement and fines of up to EUR 200 for non-compliant vehicles. Cars hired at AGP are modern and carry the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires, so a rental can drive into the centre and the cruise port area with no extra paperwork. The fines target older or foreign-plated private cars, not your hire car.
On the way back, fuel up before the airport, as on-site prices are higher, then follow the "Car Hire" signs - keep to the left-hand lanes, as the right takes you up to departures. Returns go to Levels -1 and -2 of the P1 car park. Most suppliers offer 24-hour key drop, so for after-hours returns you park in your company's bay and leave the keys in the marked box. If you plan a cross-border day to Gibraltar, around 1 hour 30 west, declare it when you book rather than at the desk.
Both working terminals. On-site suppliers have desks in the basement of Terminal 2 and on the ground floor of Terminal 3 by the baggage carousels. Pickup cars are on Levels 0 and -1 of the P2 car park.
Off-site firms run a shuttle from the terminal. Your voucher states the exact location.
Yes. Cars rented at Malaga Airport carry the DGT environmental sticker the zone requires, so you can drive into the centre and the cruise port area with no extra registration.
The fines of up to EUR 200 only apply to older or foreign-plated private cars.
Most desks open late, but hours vary by supplier. If you land after midnight, check the closing time on your chosen company before booking so your pickup is not missed.
Most suppliers offer 24-hour key drop for returns.
About 15 to 20 minutes via the MA-21 or MA-20 in normal traffic.
For the coast, you can join the A-7 or AP-7 toll road straight from the airport and skip the city.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
To avoid a hold, choose a full cover or no-deposit rate - then a debit card is usually fine and there is no pressure to buy extra cover at the desk.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at AGP and return in Marbella, Fuengirola or Granada.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics are in shorter supply and cost more, so book one well ahead if you need it. The same applies to 7-seaters in summer.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
