Distances are short and roads are easy, so size your car by group and luggage, not by the drive. Compare what is on the desks at IBZ below.
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) sits about 7 km south-west of Ibiza Town and handles close to 10 million passengers a year, almost all of them in the summer months. Collecting a pre-booked car at the desk takes a fraction of the time of the taxi rank, which in peak season can stretch to 45 minutes.
IBZ has a single passenger building, with arrivals on the ground floor and departures above. The rental counters sit together in the arrivals hall on Level 0, signposted "Car Rental" or "Alquiler de Coches". Suppliers such as Budget, Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, Goldcar and Europcar have adjoined counters in the same area. staff point you to the cars, which are in the outdoor lot a short walk from the terminal exit.
Desk vs shuttle at IBZ
Whether your supplier is in the hall or on a shuttle is confirmed on your voucher - check it before you land.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport or EU ID, a driving licence held for at least a year, and the booking card ready at the desk - it keeps the queue short after a long flight. Late-evening landings from the UK and northern Europe are normal in summer; if your inbound flight is delayed, contact the rental desk using the number on your booking, and most providers hold the reservation for up to three hours past the agreed collection time without cancelling. After-hours collection is available with some suppliers, but check your company's closing time before booking if you land after midnight. Walk round the car, photograph any existing marks and confirm the fuel level before you drive off.
Ibiza is small - roughly 40 km by 20 km, so wherever you want to go, it doesn't take long. Leaving the airport you are on the island roads within minutes. Playa d'en Bossa is about 5 minutes south, Ibiza Town around 10 minutes, Santa Eulalia about 22 km on the C-733, and San Antonio roughly 23 km west - around 20 to 25 minutes by car. Each of those.
Two local points make driving here easy: there are no tolls on Ibiza's roads, so once you leave the airport you pay nothing extra on any route across the island, and Ibiza has no urban low-emission zone, so there is no sticker rule to worry about. Cars rented in Ibiza already carry the standard DGT environmental sticker in any case.
When you return, fuel up before the airport - the nearest petrol station is on the road towards Ibiza Town, under 2 km from the terminal - then follow the "car hire return" signs to Parking P2. Most rentals run on a full-to-full fuel policy, so a top-up here avoids the higher refuelling charge. If you booked through Centauro, leave time for the shuttle back.
IBZ has one terminal. The desks are together in the arrivals hall on Level 0, signposted "Car Rental", with the cars in an outdoor lot a short walk from the exit.
A few suppliers, including Centauro, shuttle you to an office about 5 minutes away. Your voucher states the exact location.
After-hours collection is available with some suppliers, but hours vary. If your flight lands after midnight, check the closing time on your chosen company before booking.
Adding your flight number helps the desk hold the car if you are delayed.
No. Ibiza's roads have no tolls, so you pay nothing extra on any route once you leave the airport.
There is also no urban low-emission zone, and rental cars carry the standard DGT sticker anyway.
Both are around 20 to 25 minutes. San Antonio is about 23 km west; Santa Eulalia about 22 km on the C-733.
Playa d'en Bossa is just 5 minutes south and Ibiza Town about 10 minutes.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup in the terminal.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect at IBZ and return in Ibiza Town or San Antonio.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics are in shorter supply and cost more, so book one well ahead if you need it. The same applies to 7-seaters in summer.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
