No-deposit options
About a third of cars in Spain come with no deposit hold at pickup - look for the "No deposit" badge.
Full insurance
Zero-excess cover available on most cars - nothing taken from the deposit if something happens.
Airport & city pickup
Desks at the airport and in the city centre.
Free cancellation
Cancel free on most bookings, often up to 48 hours before pickup.
Most driving here is the smooth FV-2 north and south, plus a run inland. Pick by group size and distance, not by looks - and stick to paved roads, as hire cars are not insured off-road.
Economy
The cheapest way to beach-hop and the most booked car type here. Fine for two people.
Automatic
Easy on the roundabouts in and out of the resort. Automatics are limited, so book early.
7-seater & van
For families or two couples sharing, with room for luggage and beach kit.
Luxury
A step up for the coast run to the south. Deposits run higher on premium groups.
Caleta de Fuste is a purpose-built resort on the east coast of Fuerteventura, wrapped around a sheltered horseshoe bay. You can spend a week here on foot - the beach, the promenade and the shops are walkable - but the island around it is where a car earns its keep. Public transport runs on a couple of bus lines, so a hire car is what lets you reach the dunes, the southern beaches and the inland villages on your own schedule rather than a timetable.
The town's position is the main reason to rent here. It sits roughly in the middle of the east coast on the FV-2, the island's main north-south road, which means a day trip in either direction is realistic.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Almost everything on the island runs off two roads - the FV-2 down the spine of the east coast and the FV-1 up to the north - and both are easy to reach from the resort. Rough drives from Caleta de Fuste:
Day trips by car
Stick to paved roads. Hire cars on Fuerteventura are not insured for unpaved tracks like the road to Cofete beach, so that wild south-western corner is best left to an organised jeep tour. The island is flatter than Tenerife or Gran Canaria, so the main roads are straightforward, but watch the roundabouts and the pedestrian crossings through the resort.
Quick checks at pickup
You have two realistic options. Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) is about 7km north of the resort - a 7 to 10 minute drive down the FV-2 - and tends to carry the cheapest rates and the widest choice. Collecting there means you are on the road straight off the flight. The alternative is a pickup in the resort itself, handy if you are spending the first few days on the beach and only want the car for trips later in the week. Either way, an no-deposit rate with full cover built in avoids a deposit hold. For the full island picture and the airport desks, see our Fuerteventura car hire page.
Fuerteventura is a year-round destination, so the question is more about price than weather. Winter (roughly December to March) is the busy season with northern Europeans escaping the cold, so book a few weeks ahead - automatics and 7-seaters go first. Summer brings the heaviest local traffic through the resort, with short morning and evening rush hours and busy afternoons as people head to and from the beach. Spring and autumn sit in between: warm, quieter roads and easier prices. Whenever you come, booking early is where the savings are, especially for an automatic.
About 7 km, a 7 to 10 minute drive south down the FV-2.
The airport usually has the cheapest rates and the widest choice, so many people pick the car up on arrival and drive straight to the resort.
No. Standard hire cars on Fuerteventura are not insured for unpaved tracks, so a damage claim would not be covered.
Stick to the paved FV roads and reach the wild south-west on an organised jeep tour instead.
A credit card is not always required - it is needed to hold the security deposit. At pickup the supplier freezes the deposit amount on the card: the money is not charged and is released when you return the car undamaged.
Without a credit card you still have options: choose a cash-payment rate (the «Cash» filter option) or a no-deposit rate, and nothing is held.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
It depends on the car class and the supplier - you can see the exact amount on each car's card.
You can set a maximum deposit in the filter and the catalogue shows only matching offers. The lower you set it, the fewer cars remain.
Yes. To see cars with no deposit, use the «No deposit» filter option. There are also cars with a small deposit or cash payment.
Note that "no deposit" means no hold at pickup, not no booking payment - a small upfront amount is still taken when you book. If nothing suits, contact our support team.
The deposit is the amount frozen on your card at pickup and released when you return the car undamaged.
The excess is the part of any damage you pay yourself even with insurance - anything above it is covered by the insurer.
In practice, damage is taken from the deposit up to the excess, so the deposit is often set to match it. A full, zero-excess policy removes both: you do not pay for damage and the hold is usually waived.
Cover comes in levels:
You see the available rates on each car's card when booking.
If you would rather not depend on the deposit and excess, choose the full rate.
Yes, some cars can be paid in cash - use the «Cash» filter option.
You pay a small upfront amount by debit or credit card when booking (usually 15-20% of the total), and the rest in cash at pickup.
Yes, paying for the car with cryptocurrency is possible - contact our support team to arrange it.
Taking the car by ferry to Lanzarote or Gran Canaria must be agreed with the supplier in advance, and not all of them allow it.
It is often simpler to hire a separate car on the second island. If you plan a ferry, check the terms with our support team.
Yes. In the search, set a pick-up and a drop-off point - for example collect in Caleta de Fuste and return in Corralejo or at the airport.
By default the car is returned to the same place you collected it.
Most are manual, as across Spain. Automatics are available but in shorter supply and cost more, so book one well ahead if you need it.
You need a passport, a driving licence and the rental voucher - the voucher can be shown on your phone or tablet.
It states the final price with your chosen options and insurance, so the amount due at the desk will not change.
To hire through our rental companies you need at least 2 years of driving experience.
