Valencia Airport (VLC), also called Manises, sits about 8 km west of the city and handles around 8 million passengers a year, so the rental setup is busy but well signed.
VLC has a single terminal, and the rental desks are on Level 0 in the arrivals hall, just past the luggage belts. A bigger portion of the companies sit close to luggage belts 6, 7 and 8, and you reach the counters after leaving the airside, to the right of the exit from the baggage reclaim area. Follow the "car hire" signs after you collect your bags.
After signing the agreement, you collect the car at the P1 multi-level garage, reached by leaving the arrivals hall and crossing the road ahead. All the on-site companies are within a three to seven-minute walk.
Suppliers at VLC and where they sit
The exact desk and pickup point for your booking is always on your voucher - check it before you land.
The off-site names are worth knowing about in advance. Record Go, Centauro and Drivalia are located off-site and provide complimentary shuttle transfers to and from their offices; after leaving the arrivals hall, turn left and head towards the long-term parking 150 metres away, where the boarding area is near the P6 lot. If you booked one of these, allow a few extra minutes after a late flight.
Payment and deposit
When you book you pay only a small upfront amount - usually 15-20% of the hire cost. The rest is settled at the desk on pickup. The deposit in most cases is fully refundable, and about a third of cars in Spain are handed over with no deposit at all - those are marked in the results. If you only have a debit card, pick a no-deposit rate or a cash-deposit option: nothing gets frozen on your card.
Have your voucher, passport, driving licence held for at least a year, and the booking card ready - it keeps the queue short after a long flight. Terminal desk hours are generally Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 00:00, and Sundays from 8:00 to 00:00. Not every company runs a 24-hour service, and some operate shorter windows, so if you have an early or late flight, check the hours and whether any out-of-hours charge applies to your booking. Inspect the car for existing scratches and photograph them before you drive off. The minimum age to rent in Spain is typically 21, and drivers under 25 usually pay a young-driver surcharge.
VLC sits right on the V-11, which links straight to the main roads. The V-11 connects the airport to the A-3 motorway heading west towards Madrid, and the V-30 links to the A-7 coastal route running north and south. Into central Valencia is about 15 to 20 minutes via the A-3 and Avenida del Cid. For the coast, Alicante is roughly two hours south on the A-7, and driving to Benidorm takes around an hour and a half.
Low-emission zone (ZBE) - good news for rentals
Valencia has a low-emission zone in central neighbourhoods, monitored by cameras around the clock, with fines of up to EUR 200 for non-compliant cars. The zone is being rolled out in phases, and through 2026 it stays in its first stage rather than the strictest restrictions. For a hire car this rarely matters: cars rented in Spain carry the DGT environmental sticker (0, ECO, C or B) the zone requires, so a rental picked up at VLC can drive into the city with no extra paperwork. The fines target older or foreign-plated private cars, not yours.
When you return, fuel up before the airport, as on-site prices are higher, then follow the "car hire return" signs back to the P1 garage. If you booked an off-site supplier, you drop the car at their office east of the airport and take their shuttle back to the terminal - allow extra time for that. If you plan a one-way drop in Alicante or another city, flag it when you book rather than at the desk.

To avoid a hold, choose a full cover or no-deposit rate - then a debit card is usually fine and there is no pressure to buy extra cover at the desk.
The deposit is an amount the rental company holds as a guarantee for the car. Road fines or damage can be deducted from it.
If the car comes back without problems, the deposit is released in full. It is a temporary hold on your card, not a charge.
